Rich Brune has been in Lutheran education over 35 years and Principal at Suburban Bethlehem since 2001. He is married to Pam, a past teacher at SBLS. Rev. Bill Mueller

Senior Pastor

Pastor Bill Mueller serves our Lord as Senior Pastor of Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran Church and School. He is married to Julie and they have two children, Sarah and Nicholas. He enjoys seeing people connected to God's grace in Jesus Christ. Acts 16:31
Patty Macke

Admissions Counselor

Patty Macke is excited to be working with SBLS as their Admissions Counselor. She is married to Brian and they have 2 daughters. Paige and Brooke are both graduates of Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran School. Patty and her family have been members of SBL Church and School since 2000. "I love the opportunity to share all the great things our school has to offer."

Kathy Blessing

School Secretary

Kathy Blessing has been the school secretary at Suburban Bethlehem since June of 2006. She is married to Kurt. They have two children, Alicia and Jacob. “After 25 years as a secretary in the dental field, I have found a new home in the office at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran School.” 2 Timothy 3:16
Gary Mews

Computer and Math

Gary Mews has been a Lutheran school teacher and technology coordinator with Suburban Bethlehem for over 15 years. He is married to Amy, who works in Lutheran education as an administrative assistant for the LCMS Indiana District. They have three children: Paul, David, and Laura. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7)

Mark "Nate" Doepner 

 Eighth Grade 

Nate Doepner has been teaching for over 35 years in Lutheran schools. He has taught 8th grade for most of his career. He has been in the Fort Wayne area for 27 years. He teaches grades 6-8, with concentration in Social Studies, Literature, and English. He has taken more than twenty 8th grade classes to Washington, D.C. He is married to his wife, Sue. They have three grown children: Mark, Andrea, and Meredith.

Aaron Barnholt

Seventh Grade

Aaron Barnholt began his teaching ministry at Suburban Bethlehem Lutheran School in 2009. He teaches sixth through eighth grade math and scienceand serves as the seventh grade homeroom teacher. Aaron is a graduate of Suburban Bethlehem and feels very blessed to be teaching where he went to school. His favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9. "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Cara Duensing

Sixth Grade

Cara Duensing came to SBLS after 5 years in Lutheran education. She is teaching language arts for grades 6-8. Cara has a B.S. in Speech Communication and her Lutheran Teacher’s Diploma.  In addition to literature and theater, Cara has a love for music (singing and guitar), karaoke, outdoor ministry, crafting, and movies. The verse that has sustained her for many years is Hebrews 13:6:  “ So  we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper, I will not fear; what can man do to me?’”

Dan Gottschalk

Fifth Grade

Dan Gottschalk teaches 5th grade homeroom at SBL and also physical education and art in grades 6-8. He has been an educator for over 25 years, many of them at Suburban Bethlehem. Coaching soccer, basketball, and track round out his work at SBL. God has blessed him and his wife Ellen, also a teacher, with three daughters and one son.

Rachael Johnson

Fourth Grade

Rachael graduated from IPFW with a bachelor degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in language arts, science, and social studies. She completed her colloquy courses and became a Called teacher in September 2010.  She is married to Ryan Johnson. They have one child, Carter.

 Amy Greener

Third Grade

Amy Greener has been in Lutheran education for over 25years. She has been at SBLS since 1994. "Third grade is a huge year of growth between the primary and intermediate grades. It is great to be a part of helping them grow and prepare in this transition." Phil. 4:4-9
  Peggy Zilz

Second Grade

Peggy Zilz has been teaching Second Grade here at Suburban Bethlehem since 2005. She and her husband, Paul, have been blessed with four children: David, Kristen, Daniel, and Emily. Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."
 Ann Fichtner

First Grade

Ann Fichtner has been teaching for more than 20 years. She has been teaching 1st grade at Suburban Bethlehem since 2007. She is married to Joe, Pastor at Our Hope Lutheran Church in Huntertown. They have 3 grown daughters and 4 grandchildren. Lutheran Schools help a child grow in Christ along with all the benefits of outstanding academic education. Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

 Ellen Gottschalk


Ellen Gottschalk has a decade of teaching experience in grade 2, Kindergarten, and Pre-School. She started teaching Kindergarten at Suburban Bethlehem in January, 2012. She and her husband Dan, the 5th grade teacher at SBLS, have been blessed by God with three daughters and a son. She enjoys cooking, gardening, and reading. She tries to live her life by remembering Psalm 27: 1, "The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?" 

Terri Hobbs


Terri Hobbs has been with Suburban Bethlehem since 1987 in various roles. She took over the early childhood program in 2000. She is married to husband, Gary. They have a married son, Zach, who is an alumnus of the school. “I love being with the youngest kids. Pre-School is where hugs and laugher can always be found.” Matthew 19:14
Matt Johnston

Matt Johnston joined the staff of SBL after nine years of teaching music. Being a graduate from SBL and Concordia High School, he has a degree from IPFW in Music Education and Organ Performance.  Directing, playing, arranging and singing music are all the exciting things he does leading the Music Ministry at the church and school. He plans to complete the Lutheran Parish Music colloquy soon.
